friend getting married in august in cyprus, theyve been together about ten years now and have two beautifull dd's together.
they need:

  1. THE song...their first dance song

2.Ideas for 'party bags'/favours as she thinks cos we're all spending a fortune to be there with them she wants to make them special and do separate ones for the children

so can you suggest either of the two?

i have suggested for song: wonderful tonight-eric claton(as shes blond and is fab love song), but noooo!
so i sai it should be bang of gold then!

Don't understand why they don't have their own song? Otherwise you might as well have the Titanic theme LOL.
How many kids and what sort of budget? Something traditionally Cypriot or Mediterranean would be nice.

StrawberrySnowflakes · 22/01/2007 19:41

well they are spending a lot of money on actual holiday and wedding, but they are wanting to buy nice gifts to thank everyone for being with them..theres about 25-30 of us going over with them(some of which children)...her DP wants the new one by snow patrol??..think they do have 'a son' but not one theyd want at wedding??..so something nice and appropriate for wedding day, lovey dovey, love ya loads kind of thing

My sister struggled with her first dance song, and we were suggesting loads to her.

She eventually had "The Way you Look Tonight" by Elton John.

We had "amazed" by Lonestar.

StrawberrySnowflakes · 22/01/2007 20:31

no never, were going with dd who will be 4 then so am hoping its bearable for us!, i do like the sun but best yet for us is centreparcs in sept or majorca in feb, so not had hol + heat + child yet!

OP posts:
McDreamy · 22/01/2007 20:36

mmm as I said it will be v hot. My DC's were 3 and 1 during the hot weather this year and coped with it better than us but of course we were more acclimatised!

You know the drill though lots of sun tan lotion, avoid the sun in the middle of the day, plenty of fluids etc etc etc. If I can be of any help though just ask..... unfortunately you are at the other end of the island to me but I can easily find out any local info you need to know.

Just a quick tip - buy your children (and yourselves) some beach shoes as we have weaver fish out here which you don't want in your foot (you can get them here quite cheaply but I wouldn't go on the beach without them on)!

StrawberrySnowflakes · 22/01/2007 20:38

thanks for that!..any advice a t all is welcome
so do you know of the vassos nissi?...do you have your own home out there?..how bloody fantastic! and how long have you been there?

OP posts:
McDreamy · 22/01/2007 20:40

Don't know your hotel but someone here will. NO we don't own our own house. I'm in a married quarter as DH is in the RAF. We arrived this time last year and have at least a year if not 2 left.

StrawberrySnowflakes · 22/01/2007 20:41

! nice place to be based, although a long way from home i guess?..so is your dh away lots or do you get to be with him by being over there?

OP posts:
McDreamy · 22/01/2007 20:43

we thought we would be left alone out here but he is off to Afghanistan on Wedsnesday We are a long way from home which is the only downside but the flip of that is everyone is in the same position and so the support here is wonderful. I know we will be looked after while he is away.

StrawberrySnowflakes · 22/01/2007 20:45

glad you have support around you.
How long will he be away for?
so whats the schooling like over there then? is your eldest in nursery there?bet they love being there

OP posts:
McDreamy · 22/01/2007 20:49

He's only away for 9 weeks which is quite good compared to some other poor mums on here!

DD goes to PreSchool which is fantastic she starts school in September. As you can imagine there isn't much choice when it comes to schooling but the school here is really good so she'll get a good grounding in FS2 before we head home.

The children have a fantastic life. My DS just loves being outside which is pain at the moment as it's quite chilly. DD has just got her Level 1 swimming badge as you can imagine come the summer we just live in the water wether it's at the beach at the water park or at the swimming pool!!! It is a good life and we will miss it when we haver to go home so we're making the most of it

StrawberrySnowflakes · 22/01/2007 20:52

sounds fab(apart from your dh having to be away)

we have heard of a water park in aiya napa which looks fab!, but i spose there are a few there!

My brother married abroad and had party bags, in his were:

Mini bottle of fizz
Cigar
Facial spritzer spray thing
Tissues
Sweets
He married in Spain so he had castanets and fans in his, fans would be good for hot climate!
Mini bottle of sun cream

We had "If This Ain't Love" for our wedding song:

Holding you closer, it's time that I told you
Everything's going to be fine
Know that you're leaving, and try to believe it
Take me one step at a time

And if this ain't love
Why does it feel (why)
Why does it feel (why)
Why does it feel (why)
Why does it feel so good

And if this ain't love
Why does it feel (why)
Why does it feel (why)
Why does it feel (why)
Why does it feel so good

Think of tomorrow, we beg, steal or borrow
To make all we can in the sun
While we are moving, the music is soothing
Troubles we all have begun

And if this ain't love
Why does it feel (why)
Why does it feel (why)
Why does it feel (why)
Why does it feel so good

And if this ain't love
Why does it feel (why)
Why does it feel (why)
Why does it feel (why)
Why does it feel so good

Will you remember me boy
Remember me, boy will you

Just for this lifetime, you can be my past time
Here are the rules of our play
In it together, 'til I know you better
Darling, darling, now what do you say

And if this ain't love
Why does it feel (why)
Why does it feel (why)
Why does it feel (why)
Why does it feel (why)
Why does it feel (why)
Why does it feel (why)
Why does it feel so good

And if this ain't love
Why does it feel (why)
Why does it feel (why)
Why does it feel (why)
Why does it feel so good

And if this ain't love
Why does it feel so good

We were quite young and did not want anything slushy Or maybe Lets Stay Together by Al Green:

I, I'm so in love with you
Whatever you want to do
Is all right with me
'Cause you make me feel so brand new
And I want to spend my life with you

Since, since we've been together
Loving you forever
Is what I need
Let me be the one you come running to
I'll never be untrue

Let's, let's stay together
Lovin' you whether, whether
Times are good or bad, happy or sad

Whether times are good or bad, happy or sad

Why, why some people break up
Then turn around and make up
I just can't see
You'd never do that to me (would you, baby)
Staying around you is all I see
(Here's what I want us to do)

[Repeat to fade:]
Let's, we oughta stay together
Loving you whether, whether
Times are good or bad, happy or sad

Dh put some mini sparklers in my Christmas stocking, they would be super for everyone to light after dark. Always good to put colouring books or something similar in kids' bags to keep them amused during the speeches
