Mumsnet for company - dp gone away on business.......

Hi

Feeling very low today. My lovely dp has gone away on business today and is not back until 14th June. I'm at home with my two ds's (2.5 years and 7 months). I hate it when dp goes away anyway and it's the first time I've looked after both little ones on my own for an extended time. Not looking forward to some sleepless nights and no support or shoulder to cry on! Still you just have to get on with it don't you.....

I'm hoping to find some time to be on Mumsnet while he is away and hopefully join in with some conversations.

There's usually a bar open in the evenings in the Chat section where good laughs and good company can be had (I don't get much of a chance to be there at the time but sneak a peek the next morning!).
Hope the little guys cut you some slack and sleep unexpectedly well...do you have family nearby to give you a bit of a break, Mumbojumbo?

Hi mumbojumbo, I have a 2.5 year old dd and a 9 month ds so I can sympathise. My dh works (long) shifts and so I have experience of not seeing him for days on end and spending nights alone. He has also been revising for exams on and off (but mostly on) for the first 2 1/4 years of my daughter's life so, although he's around the house, I'm still very much alone, so I can imagine how you must feel.

Mumsnet can be a lifeline!!

I'm sure you'll manage by yourself, you sort of just have to so you do IME.

Goodl uck xx

My dh went away for nearly a week on business for the first time a couple of months ago, and I missed him so much. I too was on Mumsnet for support! Although I'm a FTM, it was the first time that I was doing the whole bath-book-bed routine on my own, and I was quite daunted. The worst time for me was after the children went to bed. I barely slept at night. I took dh's dressing-gown to bed with me, but it had beeen laundered a day or so before he left, so smelled lovely but not of him! In the end I ferreted out a used t-shirt from the laundery bag and finally got some sleep on the 3rd night.

Oh, what a soppy-socks!

This week dh has been away again and I feel like an old hand. Went straight for the laundry basket on the first evening! Still didn't get enough sleep, but it's improving, and he'll be home tomorrow - joy! We didn't know until this afternoon whether he'd be home tomorrow or have to stay away for another week.

I hate it too, my two ate 3 and 6. DH and I have recently agreed that for career purposes he needs to be away MORE!!(next time he`s off is next Monday)

I`ll be thinking of you and will try to pop by MN for a chat.

Chin up (try eating cake and watching soaps after the tots are in bed - works for me).

Hiya Mumbojumbo. Hope it all goes well for you, i have a Dd just 2 and a DS 8 months so i know what hard work it will be for you. I cant wait for DP to get home at the end of the day and hate his late shifts especially. So well done to you as you sound like you are gonna cope whereas i would have been on here having a right old moan.

Hope to catch up with you in the week to see how you are doing

Hi mumbojumbo. Hope things go well for you. Will keep an eye out for you on the threads. (In a non-stalkerish way! )

mumbojumbo · 03/06/2004 22:20

Hi all

Thanks for all your support.

finally sitting down having got ds1 to bed eventually (I'll be reading those sleep threads!). Just fed ds2 and have decided on an early night as soon as I can get ds2 back to bed. Both boys have been so good today and I've chilled out abit now.

DP's flight was delayed so I'm not sure when he'll arrive. I know it was really hard for him going away too - he's such a good dad......oooh I'm getting all mushy now!

Right, 5 more minutes on MN and then bed....

mumbojumbo, how are you tonight? Feeling OK I hope.

My dh is on long nights so I've done all the bath, bed stuff tonight, although only dd has actually gone to bed... Hope you've had more luck than me!

mumbojumbo · 04/06/2004 22:54

Hi Clayhead

Well, we are muddling along! DS1 didn't want to go to bed last night and then, once he had finally gone to sleep then DS2 woke up (why is that always the way!). Ended up with ds2 in bed with me!

Been out today for a picnic with a friend and her 4 children, so both boys were pooped when we got home. Had a great time. Mind you, I've since been in with both of them, settling them down again.

Also spoken to dp this afternoon, so don't feel quite so folorn.....just waiting for another chat now. He's on the west coast of US, so he's 8 hours behind.

What shifts is your dh working - sound like he has a long "day" (or night)?
