and if so - how long did it take from sending the form off to actually getting your money back???

I'm about to fill in the form to claim compensation for the £80 (4.10 special delivery, and £76 for the postal order - £70 one with £6 charge to buy the damn thing) which I paid to send my brother a postal order just before Christmas - (had to wait at least 15 working days before I could claim).

Has anyone had any luck with this - or am I just going to be wasting a stamp and feeling better with myself for at least going to the effort of sending it???

yes a couple of times, but it takes 2-3 weeks normally.

oh I don't mind waiting - it's not as though I should 'have' the money - I thought I'd sent it to my brother LOL. I just wanted to know if I'm wasting my time...

I have done without any problems, but wierdly the PO did not refund the postage, only the value of the missing item.

foxtrot - was that for special delivery?? I know they don't refund for 'normal' postage - but I'm sure I read somewhere that for Special Delivery they will.........

yes ive claimed on items that went missing with special delivery, i have even claimed when its only been recorded when they are only actually obliged to refund postage cost.

I used to work in the PO (13year plus ago) and they do pay out on claims. What they used to do was check the PO hadnt been cashed and then pay the claim.

my brother actually worked for the postoffice for 7yrs - and only left just over 12 months ago......apparently 2 delivery pouches on the 'walk' he lives on were stolen. But either way he didn't get it and I'm well pee-ed off.

im guessing you sent a crossed postal order? the only problem with sending an open one is that anyone can cash it.
I have claimed with no probs before, it was when i sent my drivers license and check for a speeding fine, it never arrived despite going special delivery, i claimed for the cost of the drivers license, then bizarrely, one month later, my original letter came back to me with all the documants still in it!

FA, yes it was normal/standard post.
