a) is it worth the money to you?
b) how often do you go?
c) would love to hear tales of making real changes to body shape from combining eating healthily with regular gym goings.

Im considering joining but not sure if I should.

Have been a member of a gym for a while and it has done wonders for me!

I go 3 times a week (Mon/wed/fri). The whole thing takes one hour. I spend half an hour in the gym, swim 20 lengths then go in sauna/steam room.

My gym is attached to a hotel and that is why there is a sauna etc.

It HAS made changes to my body shape... my arms are more toned and my stomach a bit firmer (still flabby tho!). I really noticed the difference when I couldn't go last week cos I was ill all week and my stomach seemed to get bigger even though I wasn't eating that much cos of illness.

Its hard at this time of year to go but gets better in the spring.

I pay approx. £39 a month which works out about £3 every time I go which I reckon is quite reasonable.

I'm a member of Holmes Place and I love it.

I go 4 lunchtimes a week and get a 40 minute workout done each time. I like to do the classes as it stops me taking it easy. I've definitely become fitter, firmer and most importantly have more energy since I started going at the beginning of October after a very long break.... I don't eat as much at lunchtime as I don't have time if I'm rushing to the gym (and I dont' spend as much as I can't make it to the shops either!). The gym definitely work for me.

I've joined via the PruHealth scheme where all I do is pay my insurance premiums and I get 6 months free gym membership. AFter th 6 months is up it will cost me £25 plus my premiums which are about £25 as I've set my excess to be £1000. It's definitely cheaper than joining direct (£90 a month for my branc!).

Have you looked here at articles and tips on getting free/discounted gym membership? (About a third of the way down the page under Massive gym savings)

I'm a member of jjb and have been going there since August. I go swimming there don't go into the jim but it has made a difference to my life. I have an off peak membership and it costs me £25 a month and I try to go swimming twice a week at least, three times if possible.

Since I joined I've lost 12 lb, there was about a six week lapse in the middle, but I've now got to the point where I need to go shopping for clothes in a size 10 because the 12's are too big for me.

Ironically I'm more motivated to go swimming at the jim than I am to go on the cross trainer that's in my garage

oh here we go - I'm off again!

I've been a member at my gym for 2 years. I've had 2 pregnancies in that time and I've lost about 3 stone and dropped about 3 dress sizes. I weigh the least I have in about 7 years (pre-kids)

I usually go twice a week in my lunch hour. I get a 45 min workout and with the cost I guess it works out to about £2.50 a session - obviously it would be less if I went more often which I sometimes do.

I love going to the gym because it's the only time I really get 100% on my own. I also love the way I feel now in comparison to 2 years ago.

I have also been following weight watchers for most of the time and play sport once a week.

I would def say go for it - it has made such a difference in my life!
