Right, so ds 1 accidently squashed the first gerbil with a bucket a few months ago, ds1's friend has now accidently skidded on the second gerbil and it is no more. I was not the responsible adult at the time so I didn't see it happen .
I will not be buying more gerbols I thought a pair of gunnea pigs and keep them outside. Not too much hassle and a bit more robust. What do you reckon?

Are gerbils jinxed do you think? Still I think gerbil nop.2 was a bit lonely and probably traumatised by the squashing of its friend

Am trying to imagine how you skid on a gerbil, poor thing! They didn't have much luck did they, I bet gerbil2 watched gerbil1s demise and thought it was lucky he hadn't got squished too. Maybe the skidding death is worse!

I had guinea pigs, kept it in the house though to torment my mother, he was lovely, all squeaky.

To stop squishing and skidding accidents though have you thought of a Great Dane dog?

We've just bought a guinea pig (just the one, wanted two but decided against it) and he's much more substantial than a hamster or a gerbil. I've never had one before but he seems very nice.

I think the skidding death was worse and then I had to watch a reenactment by ds1!!
I do feel very sorry for both gerbils and boys. I think they were trying to catch it and ds1's friend sort of fell onto it boy style with his knees, if you can picture that. Still I think gerbil 2 was a bit lonely, maybe it's for the best!!!
Gerbils are much nicer than hamsters but they are very fast, hence the accidents in catching them!!
