I just don't get it (although I 'get' lots of it IYSWIM ! )

I mean, I understand the 'phishing' type e-mails wehre they hope you'll give away valuable data, or the Stocks & Shares ones, where they are trying to bolster a new stock price etc, but this sort of crap:

"more alms. For that is what we are, at an events, beggar-folk and the same; and I would hearken to his swaggering talk of arms, and an bit my fingers; so that, when at last I managed to speak at all, it may and you can seek a husband to your daughter somewhere else, said I."

I think it so most spam filters will ignore it and let it past.

It's annoying as hell, just delete it from your in box as there's little if anything you can do about it. Oh and make sure you delete your deleted items when you close your mail programme

I think if you view it as html it will show the text (probably an ad for viagra or something), but many email systems don't view it as that automatically - you have to change it to see it.

Careful opening the weird ones often they carry viruses, they are gobbldigook to confuse you so you don't know what ir is or who it is from and open it to check.

Did you see on the news recently about the guy who sent 'Trojan' viruses - if you opened his e-mail then clicked on a picture it sent you a virus that enabled him to control your computer. he targeted teenage girls and freaked them out by doing things like moving the cursor and turning their printers on & off.
He persuaded some of them to take their clothes off on videocam.
He got put away for 10 years.
But good lesson there... never post a personal e mail address on a public site - not even MN
