I know you're not supposed to do anything when you're ill but at what point are you 'better' enough to start?

I keep getting colds and bugs and what have you (actually wanting to get fitter in the hope that this will stop) but when I start getting better I never know if it's bad to start or if I should give it a couple of . So I never get started.

take today for instance. Have a bit of a sinus thing with eye-socket ache etc but otherwise fine.

can I go for a run? can I? can I? or is it a bad thing. I'm not fit at all if that makes any difference.

Hmm, I play hockey and can guarantee that I will get laryngitis and/or a chest infection come January. It arrived last week. I played hockey on sat fine. Chest was a bit tight and I was more tired but did me the world of good.
Was that what you wanted to hear?.......

The basic rule of thumb i go for is, if the symptoms are just above the neck (bunged up nose etc) then exercise is fine, anything below the neck (chesty cough, aches, pains) then rest is best.

You may do something lighter than you normally would but as long as you don't overdo things will probably feel better for moving around a bit.

'lighter than I usually would'

that would be heavy typing then
