I imagine that there will be an abundance of crucifix type jewellery items and would probably avoid that sort of thing as not religious myself.

I bought an older child a set of classic children's stories.

I bought a fruit tree

madmarchhare · 07/01/2007 19:10

Oooh yes, what are those new charm braclets called, the one where you slot bits in rather than it dangling down?

Books good. What do 7 year old girl like?

I bought for a boy - and I didn't really look for age appropriate books. I went for childhood classics that dh and I remembered loving, including Treasure Island and Jungle Book.

DD got a book of poetry which both she & I love

But you can plant trees for her in a forest?

madmarchhare · 07/01/2007 19:18

True, I suppsose she doesnt have to be ready for it now. Its like the napkin holder thing isnt it? What the idea behind that one?

Good thought on the forest thing.

Should I get her a goat ?

How about a silver candle stick which her baptism candle can go in?

Alternatively, a present I often get is 'Wonderful Earth' by Nick Butterworth and Mick Inkpen but that might be a little young for her now, (warning: often booksellers say it's out of print but my bookshop can always order it and gets it in the next day!). I think it's a fabulous book

janeite · 07/01/2007 19:44

"Wonderful Earth" is gorgeous!

madmarchhare · 08/01/2007 16:04

lostinfrance wins it with the jewellery box. I think I will get a book voucher too. Thanks all.
