I think your single-finial pole is a good idea - DH knows nothing - and I might even consider drawing both curtians to the right-hand side where there's wall space rather than one each side.

Because there is a slight gap down the side of the vertical blinds which is annoying at night. Hence we are hanging them and hence they need to be either side.

I've used the single finial option in DD's room, where her window is right in a corner. It looks fine.
