My sister has just got engaged to her boyfriend and plans to get married Spring 08.

She has no clue about venues yet.

Where have you lot been to weddings in South? They live in Winchester so maybe around there or maybe elsewhere.

Anyone been to any really interesting venues?

ComeOyeFaithfulVeneer · 29/12/2006 16:07

this is lovely

If I'd had the money I'd have gone to HMS Warrior . I didn't, so we hired the local village hall! It was still great though.

Just the thread!!

Going to do a shameless hijack - sorry!

I'm getting married summer 08, and as yet, have done nothing for it yet as we can't make our minds up what we want.

I've been married before, so don't want anything too grand, but do want something special.

We live in Swindon, so would like something local that people could get to. Probably for around 30-50 people as we wan't to keep it quite small, but not too small iyswim.

Really like the idea of having it all done at 1 place i.e., the wedding and reception altogether. I'd prefer somewhere quite old and quaint.

Any ideas?

Woburn Abbey is lovely .. is that near?

PanicPressiePants · 29/12/2006 16:54

Don't know, never heard of it!!

Will google it. Thanks

TheHockeyandtheIvy · 29/12/2006 17:12

Mrs Badger

I think they want something quite posh but also quite informal, probably about 150 people including children, somewhere where the children can run about outside a bit (am trying to convince her to hire childminders too). Money not too much of an issue they are loaded! Think they'd like something quite countrified but beautiful.

Thanks for all the ideas so far will have a look at the links now.

This is where I got married in 2000, was surprisingly cheap considering how gorgeous it is there. It's nice because it opens on to the rear lawn so kids and smokers can do what they like. Well worth a visit and a poke about, handy for the motorways and comes under the Winchester register office zone too so less hassle for her.

Frostythesurfmum · 29/12/2006 17:31

Horsebridge Station looks fab!

Bucketsofdynomite · 29/12/2006 17:44

If I had stacks of money and wasn't already married, I'd get married/reception on the Watercress Line! Something so romantic about steam trains , Horsebridge Station does look nice too.

PanicPressiePants · 29/12/2006 20:45

Some lovely ideas. Thanks!

Tommy · 29/12/2006 21:00

buckets - I think that place has gone downhill a bit in the last few years... we went to a do there last Christmas and it was appalling.

We had our wedding night here which is gorgeous (couldn't afford whole do there )

bluesky · 29/12/2006 21:40

Tommy, we had our wedding night there too!

Tommy · 29/12/2006 22:38
