help I need someone to buy me a yam

mil gave me a yam to freeze

I left it at the back of the cupboard and forgot and stuff, um, grew on it

but dh is quite excited about it as he likes yam and keeps wondering when he will be eating it

we can't buy yam here; they get theirs from some special shop, they're big fat ones; she gave me half of it

is anyone able to get their hands on a whole or half a fat yam? would pay postage etc

Where are you? I'm sure our Tescos has them.

DoesntChristmasDragOn · 17/12/2006 19:15

Theoretically Tescos have them. I could add one onto my order (delivered Tuesday!) and post it to you. Can not guarantee its fatness though!

Cappuccino · 17/12/2006 19:37

LOL. Can just see a mnetter going into the shop with a tape measure to get it right

tons around here if all other offers of help fall through!

prettymum · 17/12/2006 19:41

yes, they're really big!!

ive been meaning to buy some as ive had yam few times at friends house! they are delicious!!!

mustrunmorenakedthroughthesnow · 17/12/2006 19:52

They're so slippy when you peel them though.

hoxtonchick · 17/12/2006 19:54

is a yam the same as a sweet potato ?

Cappuccino · 17/12/2006 20:26

nah, different from a sweet potato. more like a potato really

prettymum if you fancy going halves on a big fat yam I only need half a one! I can give cooking instructions too (though is piss easy apparently)

know they will be heavy to post but will pay for yam and postage to save admitting to mil and dh that I let the precious yam go mouldy

ok, i'll go down peckham tomorrow and buy one, how do i post it?? shall i wrap it in cling film??

HowTheFillyjonkStoleChristmas · 17/12/2006 20:30

am rofl at prettymum posting half a yam...

Cappuccino · 17/12/2006 20:35

I've just had a google and it seems that clingfilm isn't a bad notion

oh I do love mumsnet

email me at cappuccino dot mum at googlemail dot com if you manage to get hold of one and I can send you address etc

prob best to send it to my mum's so dh doesn't open it and say 'why are you receiving yams from strangers'

um

what will you do if you are out and they take the parcel to the depot?

Cappuccino · 17/12/2006 20:37

what would they do to it? unwrap it and put a pot of water on to boil?
