oh hun, thats bad luck

can you afford a new one cause you may be able to get it delivered before xmas if you hurry

CliffRichardSucksEggsinHell · 16/12/2006 20:35

Oh dear!

Well, can you not use the other hobs? Phone up second hand places to see if they have any replacements - DIY places etc, lots should be open tomorrow.

southeastastra · 16/12/2006 20:37

bummer

colditz · 16/12/2006 20:39

No, can't afford another one, and the glass had literally shattered all ocver the hobs.

I hve posted a messaage on freecycle.

not the end of the world, I have a steamer, we're buggered for decent gravy though!

LemonTart · 16/12/2006 20:42

My mil microwaves her Christmas dinner...
No seriously, you poor thing!
Can you claim on the household insurance? They might take pity on you at this time of year and organise something quickly?

Tortington · 16/12/2006 20:43

have you a microwave? non plastic handled pans or pyrex dishes - then you can cook to piping hot in microwave and keep warm in oven - veggies and stuff.

meat goes in oven anyway.

hyey presto - i am genius.

CouldEquallyHaveBeenAnAardvark · 16/12/2006 20:47

Oh bugger, Colditz

Can you claim on the insurance? Best not to mention "in a temper" though, I think

xmasplumtartmeistergeneral · 16/12/2006 21:07

Two years ago I took the glass of the oven door off to clean and the whole thing smashed on the floor. Yes, we were hosting Xmas dinner that year! Phoned round parts places in vain (nearly crying) and my dh went to Comet/Currys or whatever, bought a new cooker (paid), the guy took the glass off door, dh brought it home and we fitted it. Ordered new glass from suppliers and when it arrived in Jan, we took it back to shop and handed it in before the official delivery of cooker! Bless them!

colditz · 16/12/2006 21:37

Ho yhum, not insured.

but we do have a microwave. Doesn't a microwave to awful things to carrots? No matter, I shall steam them.

i tried to make ds1's nativity costume tonight, was supposed to be a donkey but looks like a skinned rabbit from Sellafield.

I am just never going to touch anything ever again.

Would something like this help if you don't get the cooker fixed? I'm sure I've seen a gas version on sale somewhere but can't remember where.
