i stopped at 13m just after thier first birthday, i just went some days to get out for a walk and i enjoyed seeing them putting on weight and doing well, also used to enjoy seeing other mums there although i never made friends this way i just enjoyed having a talk about weigh ins

WigWamBam · 16/12/2006 16:01

I never took dd to the clinic. She seems to have done OK without!

mumatuks · 16/12/2006 16:03

Well, DS1 was a year old. I took him every two weeks until he was 2 months, then every 3 weeks til 6 months, then every month until a year. Then never again.

DS2 got taken about 4 times in his first year, as they seemed to enjoy saying that I didn't feed him, and they wouldn't listen to why he wasn't eating. He's made up for it now though, I guess if I took him back they'd tell me he was too fat. (he's chunky!)

maryhadaharpsichordyeahlord · 16/12/2006 16:04

first child, 9 months (when hv started to give me a hard time about her not putting on weight and suggested I started to give her biscuit)
second child, I have never taken her. the mw weighed her, but I haven't had her weighed officially since she was ten days old.

VoodooGooseFat · 16/12/2006 16:06

oh! then am not going again as my HV is a cow.

mousiemousie · 16/12/2006 16:06

Most people I know have never been!

moondog · 16/12/2006 16:08

It's not compulsory!

VoodooGooseFat · 16/12/2006 16:10

why inthe name of holy crumpets did I think it was compulsory? seriously they have encouraged me to think that...and dd is a picture of health?

I thought it was for people who wanted some reassurance/baby know how/someone to chat to/were worried their baby wasn't putting on weight

Philomena · 16/12/2006 16:40

My DS is 7 weeks and I'm not going to take him. I'll see my GP for medical advice and seek advice from mumsnetters for parenting advice.

Philomena · 16/12/2006 16:41

Hmm. Used the word advice a lot there. Must be the sleep deprivation. Would take DS to clinic if they could sort out his lack of sleeping at night!

COPPERfeelunderSantasTOP · 16/12/2006 16:43

Dd has only been weighed at birth and at her 6wk and 8mth development checks. I haven't taken her to the baby clinic at all.

Pinkchampagne · 16/12/2006 16:46

I used to take DS1 every week for the first year of his life, but DS2 was only ever weighed when he had a developmental check up!

Mercy · 16/12/2006 16:47

Have never done this apart from the usual check-up appointments every few months (which also seem to have stopped since I had ds)

In fact I didn't realise anyone did this (unless there was a problem obviously)

EllieChocolateOrange · 16/12/2006 16:49

Hi, I have only been about 7 times in a year. The queue is too hideous. Last time I was waiting for 2 hours!!!! Now he is one year I will not bother for about 6 months, I reckon unless I am worried about his weight for some reason.

Gem13 · 16/12/2006 16:54

I went every couple of weeks with my first for a few months - wanted to do 'the right thing', see how well I was feeding him , etc. Second child - I lost her red book in her 3rd week and never went. And my HV is nice!

I think it's one of those things that is there if you need them.

LittleSarah · 16/12/2006 17:19

God, I could never be arsed. I went sporadically for the first two/three months and then stopped going.

She was clearly growing so it seemed pointless. My mum was shocked, 'oh when you were young I loved taking you to get weighed...'

Well mum, you are you and I am me.

marymillington · 16/12/2006 17:26

never took him. midwives weighed him once or twice in first couple of weeks.

but he was a bruiser from day one and i never had any concerns about him putting on weight.

TheBlonde · 16/12/2006 18:03

I just went occasionally - every 2-4 weeks in the first couple of months - usually cos I wanted to ask the HV something or cos he needed a jab

After that well maybe every 3 mths and usually for another reason apart from weighing

twickersmum · 16/12/2006 18:25

5 weeks

VoodooGooseFat · 16/12/2006 19:24

hee hee I will fill my Tuesday afternoon slot with something more entertaining...like a bottle of gin!

Nice one X

Never took ds - so 10 days when "we" were handed over to the hvs.
Was weighed at 8 month check - and dh (who took him) given hassle about what he was eating since he's dropped so many centiles. He was healthy and happy but it niggled me for ages.
Ds2b2 will not even get these checks.
Trust your intuition I say.
Have to say he had to repeat the 8 month check for other reasons and that time I had to take ds - only to overhear hv advising feeding prawn crackers or wotsits to a baby that wasn't showing any signs of being interested in being weaned!
Full of nonsense if you ask me.

DirksMummy · 18/12/2006 08:37

Never took him because I took such a dislike to the HV!
