Can somebody tell me about lap belts please?

Are they officially safe? Is it even legal to use them for a child (over the height that requires a booster seat)?

they are sfaer than no belt at all...

but in a crash they arnt that safe...

given the chice of lap belt or no belt lap belt wins (and if fitted and all otehr belts are in use then they are legally obliged to wear one)... howevere porper belts are much safer...

im sure ive read that lap belts (especially ones that arnt properly fitted... as most lap belts arnt they just click in howevere big its adjusted!) cause more internal injuries.

i would only use one as a last resort (dont have one in my car) and also the largest pasenger should use it.

also most booster cushions state only to use with a 3 point belt... but some group 1 car seats can fit safely with just a lap belt!
