DS1's headteacher gave them a talk about stranger danger - bit worrying

DS1 came home from school yesterday and said that the headteacher had called the whole school into the hall to talk about stranger danger.

Apparently, a girl in year 6 that morning had been approached by a man in a car near the school, asking her if she wanted to get in the car.

She fortunately ran down the road and straight into school and straight to the headteacher who called the police.

Bit worrying that something like this is so close to home.

was the 6yo walking to school by herself? we have had this problem a couple of times at our school, the last was 2 weeks ago when one of our year 6's was followed home by some boys that he thought was about 19-20.

I remember this happening at school when I was a child. Also a man tried to abduct me from my own back garden! FWIW nothing else happened after either incident - I think these people move on fairly quickly.

nearlythree.

Yes, the girl was walking to school by herself.

if she was in year six she'd be about 11?

we had someone a couple of weeks ago flashing, they got him in the end. i agree with nearlythree they do move on quickly

Does yours walk to school?

poppiesinalinewithtinsel · 05/12/2006 13:55

yes but with me thank goodness. Loads of children in DS's year do walk to school by themselves though. I would completely freak out if DS1 walked by himself

yeah there is no way that i would let ds walk to school by himself and i do think of him being very sensible for his age, i wasnt allowed to walk to school til i was in senior school.
