Was thinking of getting one for my parents for christmas but they don't and probably never will have a computer.

Yes. They can use those Kodak machines to print their pic's.

MrsJohnCuSackFullOfPresents · 02/12/2006 09:01

yes you can
you can print directly from most cameras either by connecting it to the camera or by putting the memory card into the printer - and on lots of printers you can now preview the pictures on them anyhow. So you can get a printer that doesn't need to connect to a computer.
you can also take the camera/memory card/device into a shop to get prints from it

vickiyumyum · 02/12/2006 09:01

yes, just get them, one with the docking station/printer so they don't have to traipse to the shops with the memory card to print the pictures of.

we'vw got a hp one and its really simple to use you literally put it on the printer press print and it prints!

Was wondering about the printers things. It would have to be really easy to use as my Dad still has my Dh to change the clock on his video twice a year. He's had the video about 10 years!

What is HP?

If they shop at, say, Tesco, its dead easy to take the memory card in and have the photos printed in 1 hour, just like from a film camera.

HP is just a brand name - Hewlett Packard
and it is really easy to get them printed at supermarkets etc

Thanks.

So I'm not being thick or missing an obvious pitfall?

My mum spends lots of money on photos (of my kids mostly) but is not a great photographer and there are usually 6 rubbish pics every time. Thought if she had a digital one she could delete them before she prints.

Also is the only thing I can think of to buy them.

my mother is getting one for her 70th in a couple of weeks. and I am going to be pressganged into showing her how to use it - I know it is going to be a nightmare! But they do have quite simple ones - I'm going to have to firmly steer my dad towards an easypeasy one and curb his love for uneccesary gadgets!

ComeOyefaithfulVeneer · 02/12/2006 09:23

I have the HP system and it is a doddle to use. (I am pretty computer/technology illiterate).

foxtrottothefestivegrotto · 02/12/2006 09:33

2nerves, the more photos you print the cheaper it is, so may not even be worth bothering to teach them how to delete the pics.
If they want to store the digital images, you can have them burned onto a CD too.
And you can get a lead which plugs the camera into the TV so they can display the pictures that way too.

littleducks · 02/12/2006 09:34

I have Kodak ones and a kodak printer, i used to take memory card in to Jessops, review on screen the print what i wanted (or have put onto cd if i wanted to keep pics but didnt want prints) before i had my computer. Now i use printer connected to printer but you can use camera connected to printer. i would recommend it.

2nervesnapartridgeinapeartree · 02/12/2006 09:40

I didn't know about the lead for TV foxtrot. Sounds like a good idea.

Thanks for all your recomendations.

One last question.

My digital camera is 3 years old and due to be replaced because the delay between pressing the button and taking the photo is so slow my DS(20 months) has enough time to leave the room. Leaving me with lots of photos of my sofa.

Is it because it is old and 3m pixel or is this still a problem with digital cameras?

I only got my digital camera last year and it's quite a good one (5 megapixels) but there is still a slight delay that I find annoying. It's probably quicker than dh's camera though which is a lot older so I expect they've improved.
