I am south african but profess to no longer feeling like one. In fact have just applied for British citizenship and when I went to the rugby at Twickenham two weeks ago, I cheered equally for both sides.

Just wondered if there were any other South Africans on here and if you still feel South African. Obviously nothing will ever beat biltong and having more meat than you can shake a stick at at a braai, but beyond that...

Born here, lived in SA for 13 years and was given SA citzenship, still feel very SA at times . Feel sad that my kids think that takkies are trainers and a braai is a BBQ, Oh and I miss the weather!!!

My kids call takkies, takkies. Mainly because I lived in the US for a while and never remember if they're called trainers or sneakers. So takkies they are.

I miss the weather too.

And flings (as in the crisps) and simonsberg feta cheese. But these are not really things that are worth moving country for. Whenever I get an email from my dad about the state of things there I just think: ok, I'll put up with 10 months of crap weather a year.

Agree, every time I go back I cry coz it is home, but who wants to live in that state of fear!

Lived there as a kid but don't remember much. Was there from being 6 months to around 6 years old.
My sis was born in Zambia but they returned to uk, had me and moved to SA. both her and my mum would love to return to SA. Gosh I remember some of the lingo as well..!!! Takkies and braai..mum still uses those words now.!! Another one that confusses people is "pitching up". MeaNs turning up but to others they gives blank faces..!!!

Think Queen of quotes is from SA or has SA links..???
