My landlady, I discovered today, has posted an email using a mailing list from a cinema in the nearest city to all its members telling them we are bad news and we don't pay our rent!

This isn't true. I am angry, devastated, stamping my feet, crying and skint.

We found out from a parent (sympathetic, thank goodness) at our children's school.

I'm in France by the way.

that is awful, what are you going to do about it?

slug · 24/11/2006 11:09

If it's written, it's libel.

Well, we plan to see the Huissier de Justice but absolutely no funds right now and not even sure if we have the money to get out of this damn house.

Check: I am sure we DON'T have the money to get out of this damn house.

Scuse my anger.

Do you owe her money? What I mean is that does she think she is never getting any money that you owe her?
For now I would get that email listing and post a email to everyone to say that this is untrue. But just don't say anything else.

We are paid up until 10th Dec (we move 1st December).

Since we gave our notice she has cut off our water supply from the road, threatened us, shouted at OH in the street and threatened him (her H that is) with the children next to him, and accused us of never paying our rent. We have proof of payments, etc.

This is a nightmare.

I daren't do anything in case it spoils any case we might have.

Oh god what a bitch! that's the last thing you need!
I don't believe in hell but if it's real she sounds like she deserves to go there

Carmenere · 24/11/2006 11:24

Oh ok she is a nutter. What can the hussier de justice do for you?
You poor thing, you certainly don't need this crap when you are moving.

The Huissier is the first port of call in many legal matters, as I understand it, they can write letters, make some judgements and demands for payment/refunds etc. They also act as bailiffs so have quite a few legal powers.

They charge you for the first visit though.
