Small poll: How many of you go to the loo in peace and how many er, don't?

I've read a few times here about people who miss being able to go to the loo alone/shower alone etc now they have child/ren.

Now, I know all about having a PFB (Precious First Born) and knowing, from reading countless books, that one must NOT leave them alone but even so, I managed to go to the shower/loo alone from pretty early on, ditto with dd, who's 3. Dh and I both just go off and use the loo/shower when we want to and leave the children to it. Our downstairs is babyproofed though.

So, do you go to the loo alone or accompanied?

Not a chance. dd has a strange fascination with anything toilet related and charges in with me.

Dh and dd1 both insist on privacy in the toilet. But, both insist on coming to talk to me when I'm in there!

beckybrastraps · 23/11/2006 21:20

Well, I don't take dd with me, if that's what you're asking. She does like to come and find me sometimes though...

I go strictly alone! I have stairgates to make sure that I don't have company following me around the house. Just means I have to be quick tho!

CrocodileKate · 23/11/2006 21:24

It is amazing how they can be playing so nicely on their own and have this radar for sensing the exact moment when you really would like a little time alone.

ISawTortoiseKissingSantaClaus · 23/11/2006 21:25

I try and sneek out the room but they soon come looking for me. Even my 9yr old DS wil stand chatting while im trying to go to the loo. Is it just me or is it really off putting?
Either that or i will say i need the loo and they will all say so do i and run to beat me to it!!(All 4 of them!)

hotmama · 23/11/2006 21:25

Sometimes I can run and have a quick wee! At the moment I am potty training dd1 so she usually comes with me so she isn't scared of the 'big bad toilet etc' and so she thinks there is nothing wrong with poo and wee!

Showers are a different matter, dd1 has a stairgate on her room so she can play in there (quite safe) and dd2 either goes in with her if am being quick or goes in her cotbed - got to have some personal space!

TinselgalacticWalrus · 23/11/2006 21:25

I go alone too, but it's usually accompanied with wails of "MUMMMMEEEEEEEEEE" or "DRIIIINK" etc.

3andnomore · 23/11/2006 21:25

Hm...now, I would have no problem leaving my Kids for that precious loo/shower trip...but hm...they often just follow, they seem to instinctively know, I am sure of that....and well....they only end up having the mother of all tantrums...so, tis just easier for now to go with the flow...must admit though, that ms now 4 tends to respect it when I ask him to get out and ask for privacy...but ys is a bit young for that, and as he does this lovely Blue Breatholding....it's not that clearcut in this house!

CaptainCaveman · 23/11/2006 21:26

Start off on my own but ds often comes to find me, and sits and asks me what I'm doing!

bctmum · 23/11/2006 21:27

the loo or the phone signal time for major trauma & shouting

FrannyandZooey · 23/11/2006 21:27

It depends what mood ds is in, but if I want a poo I can usually say "I would like to be private now, please." However I think it is good once in a while to see an adult performing, as teaches good hygiene skills, how to wipe bottom etc.

GarfieldsGirl · 23/11/2006 21:31

Go for a wee by myself? I didn't know you could do that!

ds2 would be climbing up the curtains if I left him for even a few seconds!
