Sexism is rampant in our house!

I am going out for a meal tonight so I said to ds1 (7) that it would just be him, dh and ds2 for dinner - pizza and garlic bread.

He looked at me in horror and said "but who will cook it? Daddy doesn't know how."

And when I said his Dad is pefectly capable of cooking pizza he replied "I thought he could only cook toast."

What have I done? Are my sons going to be inept, sexist, 50s throw-backs?

It works in reverse in our house. When dh was going to go to Canada on urgent family business for a couple of weeks ds (then 5) said but who will look after me??!!
DH was not a sahm, we were both working.
We had to explain to ds that I would be looking after him. DH didnt go in the end cos of the guilt of leaving ds.

It's the same at ours.
When i was at college my dd1 kept asking me why i was going to college. I said, well it's so i can get a good job. She then said, well who will be our mom if you are at work.
She thought only dads went to work.

similar here MM.

It's my birthday in June and DH suggested a weekend away(just me) at a health farm for me to de-stress and relax.

DS1 overheard us talking about and said " but who will look after us?" and it wasn't that he misunderstood, he genuinely doesn't think Daddy will be able to look after them all...........neither do I but thats another story.

The answer is simple - go out lots. Enjoy the meal, honey. You deserve it!
