Planning a wedding in four months - have you done it? Any tips?!

DP and I have been engaged for over a year, and have two dc. Second dc is quite new so we haven't really been focused on getting married at all as the thought of it was quite overwhelming (I have a huge family).

This morning, after feeding ds at 5.30, it just suddenly popped into my head that it would be great to get married in December and totally downsize the wedding, inviting only immediate family and a few close friends.

I love Christmas, it's a happy time of year for me and there are beautiful lights and decorations everywhere. Dp thinks it's a great idea so I just wanted to ask for any advice from anyone who has planned a wedding at relatively short notice!

Our local registry office is absolutely beautiful so if they have space we would like to get married there, other than that we don't really know what else we would like, so any suggestions or tips would be most gratefully received.

I started planning 2 weeks ago, for a wedding before Halloween. It can be done. You can prebook registrar before getting license. A lot of places also give discounts in winter. Good luck!

If you want a wedding dress from a bridal shop, you probably need to get out looking this week. I remember that being the main thing for her. She got engaged at Valentines, married mid June and the shops all assumed to start with that she was shopping for the following June.

We set a date and organised a wedding in 8 weeks. It was a very DIY wedding and very simple /Jon traditional
If you were goin for the full works, expensive dress etc then it may be a bit harder
We set a date and designed and ordered invites online
Orders rings online (after shopping around the high street)
DH got suit from debenhams and I ended up getting my dress from the coast bridal selection
Ordered flowers from local florist
Food was a bbq so went to macro as bulk bought food
Cake was a tower of cupcakes I made and iced myself
Booze was bulk bought and people also bought stuff
I did little party bags and DH did a playlist

First, set your budget. That will help stop you from getting carried away with stuff you wouldn't ordinarily be bothered with.

decide between you what sort of style you want, eg traditional, informal, etc.

Then have fun!

Thank you, I'm going to have a look at coast dresses as I love that style but never buy anything from there as I think they are too expensive! However for a wedding dress they would be quite reasonable. I'm not exactly sure what I could wear for a winter wedding, and I have the added complication of breastfeeding, though I think by then ds could manage for a few hours without a feed and hopefully have a bottle or beaker instead.

I'm not sure if this a really silly idea or not! I wish I'd thought of this a month or two ago but we were a bit preeoccupied

Might see if the registry office is open now to see if any dates are free .

And yes, a budget might be a good idea! Though if we only have 20/30 people then hopefulluly we could do the day really nicely without worrying too much about how much it is costing per head .

Met and married husband in 11 1/2 weeks, had a small church wedding arranged the wedding in 2 weeks! No fuss very relaxed and everyone said it was the nicest wedding they had ever been to as everyone was so calm
