Shopping in North London

Can anyone recommend a good place for local, high street type shopping in north London, preferably near Finsbury Park? I am looking for an area with mixed shops, eg high street ones like mothercare, M+S, as well as cheap ones like Peacocks, Asda, and definitely some charity shops.
I know we've driven through several places like this, but am not sure how to get there on the tube.
Thank you.

You could try the Holloway Road, there is an M&S, Mothercare (although not a very good one, ie has an upstairs but no lift so you have to drag your pram up the stairs!), River Island, Superdrug, Next, Waitrose, Safeway, Greggs the Baker, etc. If you go by Tube to Holloway Road, turn left out of the tube station and cross over to the other side of the road and after about 5 mins, you'll come to Waitrose which is the start of those mentioned above. No charity shops though, sorry!

Well, I live in the Finsbury Park area (Stroud Green). There isn't an Asda within travelling distance at all, sadly. If you look on the map, following Janus's directions, you'll see the Nags Head junction, follow Seven Sisters road north and that's where Peacocks is, just before the junction with Hornsey Road. Past that junction, still on Seven Sisters Rd, is a Mencap shop. On the Nags Head side of Seven Sisters Road theres a Sense and I think Scope shop too. And just before Peacocks is a great meat market shop. If you're coming down from Finsbury Park itself, just reverse the directions!!

Now, if you fancied travelling a bit further, catch any bus from Morris Place (the "backside" of Finsbury Park Station) 1 stop to Stroud Green, outside Tesco Metro. Or walk up and catch some excellent fruit and veg and hairdressing/beauty shops!). Carry on north from Tescos and you'll find a great Mencap shop (called the Stepping Out shop) and a bit further up on the corner of Stapleton Hall Road is a Mind shop. Just before Mind is an excellent baby & nursery shop, Rubadubdub. Can you see I'm a bit keen on my home area! If you want further info, get the Mumsnet people to pass on email details!!
