tomorrow afternoon the council are coming out to do work on my stairs. they need re-enforcing, but they dont know how much work will need doing till they get under there and start. the bloke today on the phone said that if we need to move out whilst work is done, then we have to let them know asap so they can sortr out temp accomadation. The thing is, my dh is ill and cant cope with the stairs here, we are back on the list to move anyway, and am waiting for the medical forms to go thro to see what medical points we will get. if that puts us near the top of the list, would the council mvoe us to temp acc or just move us permantly. the bloke on the phone made out that it could be perm move.

Misdee- I don't know what council you are with but my council (hackney) would try their hardest to work around you in your home. you say that your Dh is ill and can't cope with the stairs so I would have thought they would move you to temp until they find somewhere perm that is suitable (without stairs). From my own personal experience, the coucnil tell you one thing on the phone but in actual fact mean something entirely different! Have you tried speaking to your housing manager? I found my re-housing officer had the most useful information. Good luck

i have a new housing support officer, and he said he will try and sort something out. the main problem with the work that needs doing is that we live in a masionette, and the stairs that are having the works done are the ones that lead from the front door to the 1st floor living areas. so if they had to remove the staircase we would be stuck in our masionette. Our housing officer knows about dh illness as i explained it when he came round to do the inspection last week. they have a huge list of dh medication and all the forms are filled in, it is very likely we will get the highest amount of points which would put us up the top of the list anyway. The other problem is, we wont get a bungalow as we need a 3bed and there isnt many (12 3 bed bungalow and gf flats in the area), so we have asked for a house with a downstairs loo, so dh will only have to go up and down at bed times.

I really dont fancy the idea of moving out whilst work is carried out, as I'd worried about my home and belongings. stupid i know, as they are all vetted by the council etc, but u hear so much about dodgey builders.

well the young lad has been to repair the squeaks on the stairs, it was missing the blocks underneath.

BUT

the stairs havent been properly screwed to the wall, so they are moving away which is causing the cracks and the fact there is a 15mm gap between the stairs and the wall. its gonna be a major job and looks like we will be without a staircase. i'm waiting to hear back from the supervisor, so i can get him round here ASAP to order the work that needs doing. the stairs arent gonna fall down or anything but they do need fixing.

I hope you get it sorted out soon. The stairs may not fall down but the longer they leave it the more damage will be caused(?)
Wouldn't it be lovely if they did find you a three bed bungalow, you never know, keep you fingers crossed.

well they main man who orders repairs came out and said that all that needs doping is plastering which will done in 6weeks. its been 6 weeks since he last came to look at the stairs and said it will be within 6 weeks back then. my housing support officer might be popping round agaian next week, as it appears the medical forms have gone missing, so may have to re fill them in and he will give them to the medical team personally. I also found out that the people in the flat over the rd moved to the best side of WGc to a 3bed house with garage with only 22points. i'm shocked. so heres hoping we get moved quickly, i'm sure the housing support officer said they were waiting 4months.
