If a recipe requires a bowl 4x4x4 inches square and I double the quantity I don't need a bowl 8x8x8 do I? So it is 64" squared so I need 128" squared or is that wrong?

I think a loaf tin does make a better shape, I just have reservations about it making the terrine taste metalic. (I'm not sure it would! I'm just worried it might!)

I think if you lined it with clingfilm, that would prevent that, anyway.

And it would probably come out easier from a loaf tin than from a square container, anyway.

(Oh, ramekins would also work, but would dictate serving size more than you probably want to, and be a bit fiddly to fill etc.)

Plus I only have about 6 ramekins anyway. Right off to do the school run then shooping with kids in tow YAY. Thanks all.

Now the actual help has been provided, I feel obliged to point out that none of this is mathematics, it's all arithmetic? DH is a mathematician (of a sort) but sucks at arithmetic ...
