Ipods and Older People?

A neighbour wants an ipod. But she can't really read the text on my Nano. Are there more accessible ipods? She isn't blind or anything like it, just older and not great with tiny type ...

The 'regular' iPod probably has bigger text.

Also, she might find an iPod 'Shuffle' (the new one is a tiny silver square thingy) which DOESN'T have a display works for her... you do all the music selection on the Mac / PC and then Shuffle then either plays randomly or track by track IYSWIM. I think you can also skip whole albums that way but not quite sure.... it kind of removes the problem she has, but maybe she wants more control...

Yeah, the shuffle might work, I had suspected that. I'll have a think, and a chat with her, and get her to visit the Apple shop, maybe. (DH will probably pick one up for her on his next overseas trip.) We only have nanos in this house, so I can't get a regular one for her to try.

She has quite big fingers, so might struggle with anything too fiddly, I thought the ipods were a good pick for her as the interface is good, but the font size really is quite titchy.

but the nanos do have a teensy screen. The regular ipod is quite a lot bigger. Possibly Microsoft's Zune or the long-awated 'true video iPod' (which is probably going to be 'all screen' IYSWIM - integrated touch sensors etc.) will have a MILES bigger viewing area.

Hmm, but I can't seem to find any references to them letting you set the font size, for any ipod. I'd fear that the bigger ipods just display more menu items. They're not very vision-impaired-friendly, are they.

I'll talk to my friend about the shuffle, that might well be enough for her. Or the big ipod. She just wants to put story tapes on it for travel really.

I just checked my ipod and it didn't have a font-size option... but the screen is physically bigger, so the text will probably be a bit bigger...

Ok, I'll send her to an ipod shop.
