My birthday is close to Christmas

At my age I really shouldnt be bothered, but I am. I would like my birthday acknowledged by DH's brother & sister. Just a card. I would like my presents to not be joint with Christmas from his mum. They are rubbish presents generally but they are seperate occasions.

No point to this thread really but its already starting to bother me again.

DH's birthday is end of November, our Anniversary 11th December........and this year he's getting a present to cover all 3

beckybrastraps · 09/11/2006 16:07

I don't tolerate it.

Distinct birthday and Christmas for sure.

My mum still rues the day she took the holly off an uneaten yule log and put on some candles. Grrr

I'm not really interested in the presents. Even a call or a text would do. I dont think they know when it is. 7 years on I hoped that DH would remind them.

DH asked me recently what I would like for my birthday this year. I told him that I would like some acknowledgement.

Beckybrastraps - If if were my family or we even saw his folks often enough then I would say something. The fact is we don't. I did mention the seperation of presents thing to his mum when she asked about it but nothing has changed. I normally get 2 or 3 silly presents from her and I can't distinguish a chrismas one from birthday as they all have christmas wrapping paper on them. Last year I got a big pink soft elephant. But thats another story.

Mines on Xmas Eve. I know what you mean as it doesn't get better as you get older. I'm having a party this year BUT we are not getting a tree until after my party (which of course has to be BEFORE my birthday as no one would turn up on Xmas eve !)

I too hate BIRTHDAY pressies in XMAS paper

Beabea · 09/11/2006 16:16

I wonder when the cut off point is. Those with birthdays on or the day before or after or is it like mine which is 10days before. Would it be any better if it were 1st December?

I would just be grateful for a few days either way. Xmas Eve is just BAD - as waking up with a hangover on Xmas Day is a massive mistake (only did this once !). Everyone is always too busy on Xmas Eve to celebrate your birthday - restaurants are booked up & full of turkey, can't get a taxi etc etc !! AND you only get once chance a year to think of what you want people to buy you.....then no more pressies for a whole 12 months

Beabea · 09/11/2006 16:26

Whizz - yours does sound worse. I get the same thing for Meals out. I don't go out for dinner now. I always invite friends round for a meal or just do something with DH.

My family are great and often come around just for my birthday. Although I dont think anything will happen this year.

Mine is the 17th - it used to piss me off when people gave me a present and said happy Birthday and Happy Christmas.

More recently I have just decided to hijack all Christmas parties and actually manage to get more attention than if birthday was at a different time of the year
