I have been annoyed at seeing newsreaders wearing poppies...

Don't get me wrong I have worn a red poppy for Remembrance Day ever since I can remember - My children wear them too - My father was an active Major during WWII - the remembrance is important to me

BUT there seems to be a competitiveness about how early they are being worn ... smug politicians and smarmy newsreaders have been wearing them for a good week

I think wearing them before the week of Remembrance Day is gauche and a statement rather than a remembrance

Is it just me?

well it's near so not too early imo

LucyJones · 01/11/2006 11:55

think it's just you It reminded me to get one so helps in that way I think

zippitippitoes · 01/11/2006 11:55

just you

it seems to be an increasing tendency to elongated every event - Christmas starts in the autumn, fireworks "night" goes on for weeks, remembrance days lasts for weeks too. The World Cup lasted months.

It's like people having nothing to fill their present so have to fast forward to the next event.

Last 2 weeks in October is too DAMN EARLY

I am right! I AM I AM AM AM!!

zippitippitoes · 01/11/2006 11:59

calm down, you need therapy to help you direct your ire more productively

TwigTwoolett · 01/11/2006 12:05

ONE should wait until after Guy Fawkes NIGHT

ONE should not discuss Christmas in NOVEMBER

ONE should get a feckin' life and not wish it away by focusing on everything that is in the future

Carpe Diem .. not Carpe Next bloody Annum

grrrrrrr

I am unfeasibly wound up by this

ONE should not get so wound up about poppies

throckenholt · 01/11/2006 12:15

another thing in a similar vein - news reporting telling you that x will be announced later today - and giving the details - so has it actually been announced yet or not ?

And stag nights - how come they can last a whole weekend now ?

DontBurnMeImJustATwiglett · 01/11/2006 12:17

ONE forgot to change her Halloween Name .. Dat's Better

I know this message is orobably too late now but I agree with Twig. Live for the day - shops have had Xmas stuff in since early october. EATING, BOOZING AND BUYING EXPENSIVE PRESENTS ARE NOT WHAT CHRISTMAS IS ALL ABOUT no mater how enjoyable all 3 are!

I suppose if we did not buy stuff so early for all the events we have mentioned then the shops would not stock them so far in advance

hana · 03/11/2006 23:20

umm
remembering those who have died
so it's a few weeks a year
don't see the prob with wearing them longer than what some see as 'acceptable'
better things to worry about isn't there?

Macdog · 03/11/2006 23:25

Not just you Twig.

I buy mine in Remembrance week.
Meant more to me personally that way.

harpsichordsgoingBANGandWHOOSH · 03/11/2006 23:32

I am an official poppy lady and you can officially distribute (and presumably wear) poppies from the second Saturday before Remembrance Sunday.

Macdog · 03/11/2006 23:34

I bow down low before you harpsi

Grin
Dawnybabe · 03/11/2006 23:54

I would imagine that people on tele wear them early to remind us minions to wear them too?
