Anyone know about Vodafone and 3 networks sending texts abroad?

I've just been on the phone to my Dad and we are trying to text each other. At first I couldn't send him messages but now it's working (I'm on 3) but he can't reply... It says on his phone that the message has sent but I'm not receiving them. (He's got the right number and +44)

erm, I used to program the sort of servers that your text messages get sent through.

our philosophy was : if in doubt, throw the message away!

Seriously, your father's network has to connect to your network, and find you (possibly not in your home location?). It may take some time. There is a built in time that they will keep trying to deliver, in the message header, so you probably just have to be a bit patient. But if some software engineer made a mistake at any point, your message could get binned

I'm in work, there are no reported problems with our networks at the mo

If you send a message as a reply, then there is a Reply To number automatically set. This is not your number, it is the number of the local SMS server. It should be the same server that your message was sent from.
Maybe your dad could try composing a new message?
That is the sort of test I would try, anyway, just in case.

It sucks, but it pays the bills

oh, isnt that called "2nd line of support" or something similar?

I was the final call, ie the engineer responsible, until recently, for a VF product. (Actually, I would love to have a perm job there)

WelshBoris · 29/10/2006 13:46

Its called "last port of call,if all else fails call Becka"

Thanks guys - sorry I had to get to tesco before it shut!!

He's tried sending to me with both a reply to my message and to just my number by typing it in, but I'm not getting the messages I sent one to him while we were on the phone and he got the message in about 3 seconds.

Forgot to say he's in australia if that makes any difference? He can send messages to his brother here in UK with no probs.... v frustrating!!

Then its a mystery. Or else, you will get all the messages delivered together, some time tomorrow.
