Anyone know of a great Thai restaurant in London?

Help, I have friends visiting from overseas and it is my friend's 50th birthday. She likes Thai food but as it's a special occasion we'd like to eat somewhere "naice" rather than the more basic places I know of.

We need somewhere either in central London itself or the south east London area, or Canary Wharf, where they are staying. Any suggestions gratefully received!

Anything is West or SW London is too far away. I live in SE London and they are staying with me part of the time.

I thought my friend's husband was organising it but he has asked me to do that and they will be here in two weeks, hence the call for help!

Thanks!

Thai Square by Tower Hill is nice and has a downstairs bar / disco area

Nipa Thai at the Lancaster hotel is one of the nicest. Ask for a table overlooking Hyde park.

Nearby is a dive called the heron which is a pub but with one of the most authentic Thai places I've found. They go big on chilli. Not for a special occasion but another day.

Agree about the one at the Royal Lancaster Hotel. I used to live in Bangkok and there is a reunion held there every year as the food is so good.
