Do you have a routine during the day and will you share it with me?

a few months ago there was a brilliant thread on what people's routines are of an evening, and it gave me some ideas for entertaining ds, getting dinner prepared, bathing, and bedding etc not to mention washing, talking to dh etc etc. i have just gone from working full time to going on maternity leave (and a SAHM for probably a year or 2 certainly) and i was wondering if i could pick your brains on what you get up to during the day, and how you fill your time with your kid(s) and/or a new baby..... it's being in the house that i am finding most challenging, i keep feeling as if i should be doing structured activities but aside from jigsaws/play dough/reading/painting i've run out of ideas. thanks..........

I would bath them both
at the same time - good for bonding and older one to watch tv whilst you feed and put baby " to bed" evenif only for a few hours

yes madgirl Kayleighs mate!

Yes agree with no tv or downstairs action after bath in my house!!. Then they know thats the cut off & its time to calm for bed and its also nice having that time, especially if 2nd babay is still up then he knows its his time & that baby is coming up to bed too and not being banished.

Not sure how you will feel the 1st few weeks , but baby will be in a carry cot ??? then ds can have a run around and let of steam whilst you sit with baby. Im sure others will help you with him when there, especially if you go with other friends.

As soon as I put baby to bed (6.30/7) a routine kicks off for DD (4yrs) she has snack, some play time up the stairs at 7.30, brush teeth, toilet, pyjamas, story, sleep by 8. I find she responds really well to having this time just with me once baby is in bed and makes her feel grown up being up "late" although Im thinking of moving it earlier so may give her snack and play at about 6.30 and her asleep by 7.30.

I bath them earlier (about 5.30/6)

Gem13 · 22/04/2004 21:43

Thanks codswallop. Now I have no excuses not to clean DH will be pleased. Doesn't help that we are both untidy so cleaning involves tidying first.

Must go and clear the dinner table now before bed.

Beccarollover · 22/04/2004 21:44

but she doesnt suffer fools gladly!

melsy · 22/04/2004 21:46

I will have to keep this thread for the future. Remind me someone next year!!!(no not PG).

Thats a good idea becca, 1st staying up later than baby to feel older!!That qaultiy time with the 1st seems to be more important with a 2nd baby.

melsy · 22/04/2004 21:46

No messing with coddy ya hear!!

mummysurfer · 22/04/2004 21:48

gem13 - snap - much tidying to do before cleaning. i find it best to do one or the other

melsy · 22/04/2004 21:50

see your all good breaking the cleaning up on diff days . Once i get a bee in my bonnet I clean for england and dont stop for hours , till im sliding down a kitchen cabinet and slumped on the floor. Im a bit all or nothing, normally NOTHING !!!

UH OH coddy's gonna give me a kicking
