Just had someone to view our house who was evidently chewing gum the whole time she was here. Found it very distracting and impolite, like talking with your mouth full, and it was hard to hold a conversation. Personally if I chew a sweet or gum I do so in the car and remove it before I get out and meet anyone.

watched a bit of the American Apprentice series last night and one of the finalists was chewing, felt she should have been fired just for that

LadyMacbeth · 19/10/2006 18:51

Yeah, can't stand it... when I see adults chewing I always think they're trying to be cool.

HallgerdaLongcloak · 19/10/2006 18:53

I agree - it's rude.

MissyBabee · 19/10/2006 18:57

i interviewed someone once and they chewed gum right the way through it . after putting the bin in front of them, they got the message and spat it out! they weren't embarassed in the slightest

needless to say, they didn't get the job

which channel is american apprentice on, bundle?

SueW · 19/10/2006 18:59

It's a disgusting and ever-growing habit sadly. There was a woman who used to go to a dance class I went to. She was v good looking and great dancer but she spent the whole time chewing gum, mostly with her mouth open. Spoilt the image really

Aargh I really hate people chewing gum - am almost phobic about it - the horrible smell, the even more horrible noise, and the nasty nasty sight of all that masticating. Eurgh. Have to change seats on the train, or get up and stand somewhere else if a gum chewer joins me.

MissyBabee · 19/10/2006 20:21

thanks nellie/bundle, do you know if it's repeated? i would have love to have seen it! it's donald trump isn't it?

Tutter · 19/10/2006 20:23

yes it's rude

sorry you're still on the market liz (so to speak) - have fingers crosssed for you

Mirage · 19/10/2006 21:03

I hate chewing gum full stop.It has the effect of making the chewer look vacant & bovine.

2shoescreepingthroughblood · 19/10/2006 21:06

after spending ages getting gum of dc's school jumper
I would like it banned

HallgerdaLongcloak · 19/10/2006 21:15

2shoes, sticking the gummy article in the freezer is supposed to help remove the gum. Not enough space in my freezer though!

emsiewill · 19/10/2006 21:23

Can I just say that I chew gum on the advice of my dentist, as I was having real problems with my teeth.

I do try not to chew in an annoying way (can't bear hearing other people chew - double standards), and would never dream of chewing in an interview. I also never dispose of it in an anti-social way.

But it has made a real difference to my oral health.

2shoescreepingthroughblood · 19/10/2006 21:31

HallgerdaLongcloak
I did that (thanks to mn for the advice)
left it overnightstill had to put it through 2 washes
