Asked to say a few words as guide parents at a baby naming ceremony

Hi all,

so my wife's best friend gave birth at almost exactly the same time she did and subsequently they have asked us to be 'guide parents' and to say something at their baby naming ceremony.

To be honest, we have no clue what to say at all and the internet is surprisingly tight-lipped on the subject.

Has anyone had a similar experience and would you be willing to share your expertise?! It doesn't need to be war and peace, but I'm not really sure what we are promising to do, given that there is specifically no spiritual element!

Many thanks.

Dd's "ungodly" mother said that she'd help him to love the Earth (we are all geologists or environmental scientists) and how to chose a goid bottle of wine when he's older. Other stuff about helping and supporting him and being there for him when we couldn't be or he wanted a different opinion.

Some nice ideas here: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/parties_celebrations/a502898-naming-ceremony-readings

We had a naming ceremony for our DS and just provided a poem for somebody to read.
