its a diamond cluster ring, not big but quite pretty and inscribed inside it is "October 1915 From Len to Minnie". i got it for my 18th birthday but its not a family ring. i have always wondered what happened to Len, given the date....

are mediums real though? i'm not unsceptical: but on the other hand the house i grew up in had an exorcism performed in it in the 1920's: it was an old vicarage, a church of england vicar performed the exorcism, i knew his granddaughter (friend of my parents and perfectly normal), and at least three members of the local young farmers club knew of our house as "the one with the faces in the windows" (gave me a bit of a turn when i found that out, sitting in the pub in a village in north northumberland)
i didn't by the way see or feel anything and was completely happy and unfreaked by living there)

My MIL's definitely real! And she's a medium.

Can you not ask whoever gave it to you where they got it from and work back from there ?

If it was from an antique shop or jewellers they'll have a record of who sold it to them. It may have been sold as part of an estate for example. I'm not sure a reputable shop would give out the seller's details, but they may agree to pass on a note from you.

Of course, it may turn out that they also bought it from elsewhere .......
