...from alcohol-induced liver failure. She was 33 years old.

What a waste of a life. And what a hypocrite I must be for feeling sad and shocked when I've actually spent the last two years avoiding her calls. Fuck.

It's horrible isn't it - I now find I've got to that stage when the first page of my University Alumni magazine I read is the obituaries!

My boyfriend from when I was 18 died of cancer 2 years ago, and I recently found out that an old primary school 'best friend' (though no longer in touch with her) has a brain tumour.

Very sad. Makes me want to hug my kids and live every day as if it might be my last...

I can't imagine what her poor mum & dad are going through. Her brother rang me to tell me and was so sweet. I just felt terrible because our friendship really had almost entirely fizzled out and I'd made no effort with her whatsoever for the last couple of years... I had absolutely no idea she was an alcoholic (although in hindsight it's now obvious she had a problem ).

What on earth am I going to say to her parents at the funeral?

Say sorry for their loss, and tell them some good memories of their daughter, if up to listening. You could add the memories to your card possibly.

Waiting... sorry, didn't mean to interrupt your thread!

Sorry you've had this news. As hulababy says, I imagine her parents would be grateful for some kind memories...
