Hope all has gone OK &that you got a lovely Maccy D's breakfast.

iklboo - How are you? Any better yet?

iklboo · 25/02/2015 17:50

Hi Magi - finally got a diagnosis yesterday. Vestibular neuritis (sounds like a Harry Potter spell)! Some permanent nerve damage but not too serious. I've got appropriate meds & targeted exercises to do and another two weeks off to let them kick in

All being well I'll be about 95% fit soon, which is close enough for me. Doc says there may always be some balance issues in certain circumstances (v tired, cold / flu, moving quickly suddenly) but much better than I HAVE been.

IamtheZombie · 25/02/2015 19:04

Well, as Buffalo Springfield so aptly sang:

"Paranoia strikes deep
Into your life it will creep
It starts when you're always afraid
Step out of line, the man comes and takes you away"

Herceptin infusion went like clockwork. But...

I wasn't allowed to see my scan results. Apparently there's a new policy that says patients may only receive the results from their consultant. As I doubt most patients ask to see their results before the appointment with the consultant, I suspect my oncologist has put something in my notes just about me.

That leads me to suspect that the news is NOT good. Frankly I'd rather know that ahead of time so I can prepare my questions. My appointment with the oncologist is 9.00am on Friday so it's not long to wait but I really wish I could prepare.

I will speak with the oncologist and explain why I want to know my results ASAP and ask for an exemption from the "new policy".

Oh Zombie - you do sound pissed off - and am not surprised.

I sort of assume that you will prepare for the worst pre appointment & we will all be hoping that it's going to be better than you think.

Kick ass with that consultant - they are not gods, even though they think they are.

Iklboo - I am so pleased you have a diagnosis (off to google it shortly) - nothing is worse than not knowing.

iklboo · 25/02/2015 19:21

Oh Zombie that's rubbish. Although from a relative's experience the 'only consultant to give results' rule was brought in for her as she was given incorrect / misleading info by the other health professional and who wasn't equipped to answer her understandable questions.

When she DID see her consultant he completely overturned what she had been told, gave her the (much better) news & prognosis and was able to give her the PROPER choices for ongoing treatment. I hope it's the same story for you.

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 25/02/2015 21:53

Bloody hell love, that's tough.

They will make exceptions to that new policy, especially for someone as well informed and self aware as you.

But what a pain to have to be fighting for that along with everything else.

TeamDBF is here, stoking the fires and topping up your whisky, and as magi says, hoping the news is better than you think.

((((((big hugs)))))))

mummylin2495 · 25/02/2015 23:12

Just because one is paranoid doesn't mean extremely aggressive nasty bastard cancer isn't out to get one.

The liver mets are back with a vengence. They are 2.8cm and 1.8cm. This compares with the original lesions which were 1.6cm and 0.5cm last June before being (temporarily) dispatched by the Docetaxel.

The Multi Disciplinary Team will discuss my case next Tuesday. The oncologist is recommending that I move from Herceptin to Kadcyla (Herceptin + Emtansine - a chemo drug which is attched to the Herceptin and directly targets the cancer cells). I will see the oncologist again within the next 2 weeks and, if all goes to plan, will start Kadcyla on 18th March. Cancer Drugs Fund here I come!

The consultant I have been seeing has left. I've not yet met the new consultant. I was seen today by my favourite senior registrar. He agrees that there's no reason I shouldn't be given my scan results before seeing the consultant if I so wish and will put words to that effect in my notes.

Now waiting for the good bit of today - my new tumble dryer is being delivered this afternoon.

iklboo · 27/02/2015 14:55

Oh damn damn damn damn bugger FUCK!!!

Fucking evil bastard cancer.

Thinking of you Zombie. Hugs & much love from House Iklboo ThanksThanks

mummylin2495 · 27/02/2015 14:58

So does that mean that if the new drugs work for you, you will be cured ? If that's so I will be so happy for you. Sounds like it will be all guns blazing to get rid of the liver mets which obviously have grown quite a lot since last year. How do you feel about having a new consultant ?
Let's all hope that can get started ASAP.
Hope you have done some washing so you can try out your new dryer !

IamtheZombie · 27/02/2015 15:36

Mummylin, no, I never be cured. All the doctors can do is to keep me going for as long as possible by giving me a new treatment every time the previous one stops being effective. I'll be attending the hospital for a treatment of some sort every 3 weeks for the rest of my life. Or, more realistically, until I decide the quality of my life has deteriorated to the point that I refuse further active treatment and just let nature take its course.

magimedi · 27/02/2015 16:08

Cunting cancer.

I send my love you, dear Zombie.

We'll all be here for you, all the way, whatever.

I think it is now my duty to issue a LARGE ration of gin to the Phalanx, for the drowning of sorrows & the toasting od Zombie.

magimedi · 27/02/2015 16:08

mummylin2495 · 27/02/2015 16:31
