I think the earthquake was minor, although some poor people did get hurt.

I would check with the foreign office for travel advice. I probably would still go, although there my still be aftershocks.

I got caught up in a volcano in Guatemala several years ago, the airport was closed for a couple of days and it was quite stressful, and I only had myself to worry about! How old are your dds?

They're four and (by Friday) just seven.

Are you used to flying with them on your own? It sounds quite hard work to me!

Yes, have done it quite a bit from when they were tiny - my sister lives in San Francisco. It can be grim but it's a lot easier now they're older and they can watch the tv things. But it's all a bit ridiculous - we fly out, take three/four days to recover, have a couple of, hopefully, normal days and then fly back via LA, Frankfurt then London (aaaagh) ... for more jetlag just in time for school. I realise i sound like an ungrateful bitch but she just went ahead and booked the tickets ....

Certainly a lot of work! I hope you manage to enjoy it , and your sister helps out so you can relax!

hey Sykes, I'm going out on Thursday week... Friends had a call from resort on Big Island to assure them that no major damage has been done and it's safe to travel. Would still probably check for this week though.
