What should I call my new house?

I am in the process of converting a barn (well the builder is, I'm not very hands on especially as it needs knocking down and then rebuilding). Actually a barn makes it sound more glamorous than it is it is in fact more of an old shed/garage which could possibly have been a stable.
It is in the grounds of "Loxley Grange" one of the previous conversions is called "Fariview Cottage" and one is called "Grange Cottage".
My dilemma is what do I call our new house? I thought I would ask you imaginative and creative bods for some suggestions. Thanks for any help you can offer.
Cheers

Loxley Cottage

Malus Cottage - always liked that one but you may need to plant some apple trees..

Loxley Barn

The Old Barn

Any trees nearby you could name it after? We are Elmdon, but I wish we were Elm Cottage which sounds much nicer! Can't be arsed to change it though!

Loxy foxy house
Loxy foxy cottage lol

Our house was named by the previous owner and she had used parts of her first and last name. Sounds a bit cheesy but its a lovely name I think.

Ours is AppleJack Cottage.

Loxley Barn.

or the Old Barn

or the Barnyard.

I like the first one best though.

If it is a barn-style conversion (with wooden bits on the outside), it is not a cottage imho and shouldn't be called one.

Loxely barn sounds good!

How about Ex-Shed Cottage

Twohoots · 03/10/2006 16:13

I think the idea of a nearby tree name sounds lovely. Failing that depending on when it is ready you could call it the month you move in (i.e. we used to live in an April Cottage - doesn't sound quite the same though if it's a September move in or something though does it??).

Twohoots · 03/10/2006 16:14

Carolina - I agree with you - it needs to look like a cottage not a barn. You could still use the tree thing with the word barn though i.e. Elm Barn, Oak Barn etc.... won't let it go will I?

Sounds v exciting btw!

Robins Hood

As in Da 'Hood with Robin of Loxley ?? {groan}

I'm desperate to send the forms to The Post Office to call ours the "Old Brothel" Do you think they'd accept it ?!!

Only because they must have been bloody religious in our village as every other house seems to be the "Old Chapel" or "Church House" or somesuch

Bramble cottage or Bramble barn

I named my Mums farm Bramble farm when they were searching for names (its the name of their european eagle owl actually) and loads of people commented on what a lovely name it was.

Gosh you guys are so quick. I look away for a minute and wham bam loads of suggestions.

It actually looks more like a garage than anything else as the planning dept said we had to keep two sets of stone pillars that were previously holding up garage doors although one will be entirely glazed and one will be glazed with a door in the middle.

We also had to have a bat survey and we have to put bat boxes up and have ridge tiles with "bat access" to comply with the planning dept.

There is a Horse Chestnut tree nearby which DD has been trying to eat the conkers from.

We are hoping to use a lot of natural oak in the staircase/floors/doors architraves etc. It feels to me as though it wont have a lot of character but as it will be whatever we make it then it is up to us I suppose, unfortunately there are no original features we can reuse though.

I though we could call it The ARK as that is the first initial of DD, me and DH but DH thinks it is a bit religious and a bit naff. (also now DC2 is on the way would probably be unfair).

Thanks a lot for all you suggestions.
