DH went away on business to the US this morning until Friday. We had a major panic at the 11th hour regarding the whereabouts of his passport which meant 2 hours sleep last night following a long search, taking the house apart. Eventually, at 2.30am we found it. Finally got to bed gone 3am and DS2 woke me up at 5am. I then did all the ironing such that DH had something to put in his suitcase. He left at 8 this morning. At lunchtime the RCD on the consumer unit tripped and I lost all my electrical sockets downstairs. I've had my fab ex-neighbour and his wife here plus another friend of my neighbours trying to fathom out what on earth has happened all afternoon. They think its the RCD that's failed. I can't order a new one until Monday and it may take a day or so to be delivered.....then I need to get a sparky to fit it. I've got my fridge freezer on and laptop/broadband and that's it

Oh dear.
Very early bed for the kids for a start,to give you time to think.

My dh is away a lot and I always have to deal with shit like this.

You need wine, NOW

Why does it always happen when they go away. Do they plan it to see how we work under pressure?!

I know I know

we had that happen with our rcd unit - we (DH) removed it until we could replaced it - he said (and he knows a bit about electrics) that as long as all the things plugged in were fused then they would blow before any other problems were caused by not having an rcd.

Having said that I have no idea how to remove the rcd!

It took us ages to figure out it was the rcd as well - and it was dark before be worked it out - and had to finally work it out in torchlight ! Thankfully it was pre-kids.

Hope things improve for you soon.

So here we are.....can't use the washing machine or kettle, or bedside light - the power goes off, can't use the dishwasher - the power goes off, ditto the TV/cable (oh and appear to have lost all cable channels). DS1 wet the bed last night so I've got to do a load of washing too.
I'm , and exhausted. Lost it with DH when he phoned last night too. What a sh*t weekend......

Thanks trefusis,
Feel it's better to rant here than at the kids! Off to Tesco's in a min to buy "picnic" stuff. They boys love a picnic, even indoors! Will probably go to my parents later and they will get spoiled even more (and I'll get a lovely cuppa!)
I will look at everything when I get back - hopefully I will be less stressed then.
Thanks again.
