changing childs surname - tell me what i have to do please!

can anyone who has done this please tell me what the process is and how long it takes. there appear to be a load of different companies offering deed poll. Haven't got a clue how to do it

You might have been better off posting this in Legal.

Is the child's father named on the birth certificate? (I am assuming you are the child's mother.) You need the permission of everyone with parental responsibility in order to change a child's name.

I'd like to know this too. I was thinking of making use of a solicitors free first half hour to get some advice.
