It's a very sweet idea of hers, but I think at 8 she's old enough to be told the truth. You don't have to be too graphic but letting her believe that it's all about nests and chickens is delaying the inevitable, and it's likely to confuse her ... and mean she's met with derision when she comes up with that one in the playground!
