I am planning a philosphy lesson for a very low ability year 9 group tomorrow, I have them standing in a line going through evolution backwards to the big bang so have humans, apes, dinasours but what do I put before that?

Year 9 is age13-14. They are an especially low abilty class though

have a look at this

bbc bitesize resoutce on evolution

It gives an accurate evolutionary time line, with pictures, that would help less academic children keep interested

Couple of points from a biology teacger. We did no evolve from apes but from a common ancestor (common mistake)

and my physics is very rusty, but a scientific explanation of what was before the big bang could be andother big bang.

Also eveloutionary science does not perport to be 'the' answer. just the most accurate answer we have based on our cuurenet understanding of the evidence we have to date.

Intellegent design is in no was a scientific explanation of evolution.

Sounds like some fun lessons, I bet they have a great time.

have just seen your link MB but as I am teaching t something similar to Year7 I may usew it with them.

Have to admit to being very lazy and using the same resource with my top set year nines who took great delight in ripping my inadequate scientific knowledge to shreds

But i did say that evolutionary science does not claim to be the one tru answer but our current explantion so maybe I am not as thick as I thought I was!

That is a fab site, will show it to some of my more keen year sevens to investigate at home.
