Personally - am not white and just love it. watched a repeat last night where they turned a people carrier into a convertible and was rolling round the floor in laughter. had to record it for dh. Am devastated for rh family and hopes he makes the fullest recovery possible.

its just boys ( and vicky) and their toys having fun and giving us that are interested a chance to join in.

The people carrier one was a classic, I also loved the one with the amphibious cars, absolutely hilarious.

Wishing all the best to Richard Hammond and his family - although I suppose that counts for nowt as I am also white and middleclass?!

Yes Pruni same here. I have no interest in cars, but the articles are such fun and they seem to have a great dynamic between them that I find it hysterically funny despite the subject matter!

Wisp · 21/09/2006 08:40

I've always liked it.
It's all a bit "silly" IYKWIM But that's the fun of it !!

I also love annoyed DH saying "oooh can you buy me that car?"

Eve · 21/09/2006 08:40

I love top gear... in a world that is so politically correct I love their humour and the fun they have!

shocked to hear of the accident

aDAdOnMumsnet · 21/09/2006 08:52

Pruni's spot on I think.

I'm not really into cars or anything but their program is fun, and they're enthusiastic, oh and there's absolutely nothing else on at that time on a sunday night.

May RH make a full and speedy recovery.

Tutter · 21/09/2006 09:05

i'm not a bloke and am not interested in cars.

but i often watch top gear as find it lots of fun. enjoy the inane banter and like the presenters.

ilovecaboose · 21/09/2006 09:08

Same as everyone else on here - no interest in cars, but love Top Gear cos its very entertaining, isn't that what tv is supposed to be?

Hope RH is ok

fullmoonfiend · 21/09/2006 09:13

I was at school with him he was a poppet then and doesn't appear to have changed much (Obviously I'm not bitter that despite 2 years of mooning around after him - and going out with his mate in a bid to attract his attention - and despite a drunken snog in the fifth form, I am not now Mrs RH...)

I hate cars, but love Top Gear (me, white but classless!) though I hate Clarkson.
Adding my wishes for a full recovery for RH and thoughts to his (bloody gorgeous) wife and kids.

NomDePlume · 21/09/2006 09:14

Top Gear is one of our tv highlights in this house.

BTW - 'Sceptical face' ?!

expatinscotland · 21/09/2006 09:15

Boys w/their toys!

DH loves cars and loves Top Gear.

themoon66 · 21/09/2006 09:34

DH and DS do their best dad/son bonding over Top Gear.

morningpaper · 21/09/2006 09:35

WHY is the BBC LEADING with this story today?

Crystaltips · 21/09/2006 09:36

Joolstoo · 21/09/2006 09:41

Both. Top Gear's a great programme and Clarkson talks bollocks about road safety.

Mascaraohara · 21/09/2006 09:43

I love cars
I love top gear
I love all the presenter (and quite fancy a bit of RH)
I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to work on that programme with them

Echo Pruni, fab statement... they're enthusiasm and fun is infectious.

I don't think it's got anything more than a group of people who share a love for motors and humour having a fabulous time, playing football in cars!

To try and put colour/crede/anything else to it, is imho, just a wee bit silly. Would it make a difference if they work from a different background but were doing the same thing??? no! it wouldn't... they would still be a bunch of people loving and appreciating motors.

What about Stig? do you know anything about his background?

Mascaraohara · 21/09/2006 09:44

Also love brainiacs but then I'm a closet nerd.

CheesyFeet · 21/09/2006 09:45

Love Top Gear, because it is boys and their toys. DH has just bought a new car and he is rattling on about it in the manner of Jeremy Clarkson rattling on about the Bugatti Veyron. Really makes me smile.

HuwEdwards · 21/09/2006 09:47

has last night's thread been deleted JT?

Joolstoo · 21/09/2006 09:49

no Huw but the post has.

HuwEdwards · 21/09/2006 09:55

ah right, good. Did said person ever come back and respond d'you know?
