i have seen a laptop on ebay i like but am a bit wary that the seller may not be genuine as he doesn't want me to pay by paypal. his ebay id is erminio2302. can someone ask him a question about one of his listings - he is in italy so you could ask how much it is to ship to the UK or something and see what email address he replies off.

i forgot to make note of his ebay id and have his email address so emailed him for it, but a friend has told me he could have told me someones elses ID so it looks like he is a trustworthy seller iyswim.

How are you planning on bidding if you don't know his ebay ID???

SenoraPostrophe · 19/09/2006 16:22

isn't his ebay id erminio2302? - not sure what the question is.

I'm not surprised he doesn't want you to pay by paypal for a laptop though, because you could be using a stolen credit card.

colette · 19/09/2006 16:22

If you have any doubts I would not buy off him - not a laptop .

nappyaddict · 19/09/2006 16:23

it was on there as a sort of advertisement so i emailed about it. the id he has given me seems to be very reputable but it seems a bit funny. could be very legit though!just want to check out that that ebay seller is actually him.

So is the laptop listed on ebay or not?

nappyaddict · 19/09/2006 16:25

senora i lost his ebay id so i emailed asking him what it was so i could check his feedback. but then a friend suggested he could have given me the ID of someone he knew had good feedback so i would buy off him. probably being overly wary but thought it would be best to check it out so if anyone could help me out i would be very grateful.

if it's an off-ebay sale from an ebay seller then just don't do it. email address or no email address.

nappyaddict · 19/09/2006 16:25

it was, but when i went to find it today it had ended.

I wouldn't buy it if not through an Ebay auction (which it doesn't appear to be since erminio2302 doesn't have any items for sale at the moment).

nappyaddict · 19/09/2006 16:27

its part of this ebay protection buyer thing. i have emailed them to check the email supposedly off them isn't a spoof, but in the meantime i would like to check this too. i am a bit pushed for time as i need the laptop asap so i want to find out quickly if it is genuine.

oh right. i think if you go on his profile thing it says contact a member. just ask something like does he have toshiba laptops at the moment or something.

nappyaddict · 19/09/2006 16:33

you have to click on the me by his name as his listings are on the italy site.

Ok a question is the photo of the laptop an actual picture of the actual item or is it a stock photo??

If a stock photo i would be weary, the reason is i have watched ex g/f at this game for months now,she uses stock photos of ;aptops and mobiles, sells the supposed item takes the money filters it through paypal accounts and abandons the ebay account, opening another one a week or so later!!

SecondhandRose · 20/09/2006 17:54

I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole.

lulumama · 20/09/2006 18:09

Having bought and sold on Ebay - would not trust seller who did not use paypal - paypal protects the buyer too - eg you pay, the seller receives money but you never receive the item - you get money back from Paypal. so a seller - particularly one selling pricey goods who wants cheque or money order would not get my vote. a good rule of them - if seems to good to be true - it usually is! and if your gut instinct is to be wary ( which it seems to be! ) i'd leave well alone!

Scoobydooooo · 20/09/2006 18:11

I would not bother either sounds dodgy to me!

dmo · 20/09/2006 19:15

has he a good rating?
i got a watch from a man in italy off e-bay cost £300 waited 2 wks for deverly and nothing so e-mailed him lots and he ensured me it was in the post
got cross so logged dispute with e-bay and he closed his account and vanished e-bay paid me £50 as i paid through paypal but thats all i got

nappyaddict · 21/09/2006 02:53

well it turns out my gut instinct was right. the ID he gave me was not the one he used and he has several different IDs as i went on ebay today and saw the same listing under various different names. used my sisters account to ask one of the other names and this one is in america! have now reported to ebay and fingers crossed that will be the end of him, but no doubt he will just set up more accounts

my dh sells computers on ebay and he accepts paypal. Second hand laptops are pretty scarce at the moment. i'd also be wary of buying from Italy or America tbh and would buy from UK

Skribble · 21/09/2006 09:32

A lot of sellers don't like using paypal for more expensive items as the chrges ore done on a percentage so have to give paypal quite bit. Have a look at the feedback he has already. Is he quick to answer questions, does he give information readily or does he seem evasive.

Skribble · 21/09/2006 09:33

Sorry I missed nayadicts latest update.
