Leaving TV on stand-by - do you and for how long?

We never do, the TV is either on or off.
So imagine my surprise when I found out my aunt and uncle never turn off their telly, even when going on holiday for a whole month
The fire risk even if they don't consider environmental issues (but this is the couple who "save" money by reusing cling film)

my dad used to take all the plugs out at night, so i always turn things off rather than stand by.

BettySpaghetti · 18/09/2006 19:19

Ours tends to be on stand-by during the day if we are around or in and out. However at night we switch it off at the socket (energy saving reasons rather than fire risk)

i turn it off completely, if you leave it on standby, you might as well leave it on.

charliecat · 18/09/2006 21:01

I turn it off at the button. Should I switch it off at the plug? My mum does.

hulababy · 18/09/2006 21:02

We always turn it off at the button.

Tiggly · 19/09/2006 00:03

same as hulababy, off on the button for the lounge tv but admit the bedroom tv often ges left on standby if we fall asleep or set the timer because we are drifting off (neither of us sleep too well so would disturb eachother or wake eachother if we get up to turn it off).don't leave anything else in the house on standby i.e.computers etc, though.

Having seen the damage a TV that catches fire can do to a neighbours house many years ago. They are always off here. Should really disconnect at plug too. Umm seeing this thread maybe that's a new resolution for me.

Off. Always.
