Just caught the end of this this morning and the guest was Jack Vettriano. Not a fan of his paintings but his musical taste seemed quite good from the few I heard. I know it's repeated but is Friday the first broadcast or the repeat? Plus, there's no link to it on the Radio 4 site. Anyone know why not?

Ah a woman after my own heart tinker - one of my favourite programmes. It was a good one today wasn't it. I'm pretty sure that friday is the first one and repeat is on sunday morning - can't remember what time - 11ish I think.
you can't listen to it on the web like other programs because of copyright issues I believe.

bossykate · 02/04/2004 19:17

sorry, tinks, it's the repeat. did you hear bill nighy the other week - he has excellent musical taste...

never seen any of jv's works and am not too keen having listened to his self-regarding nonsense for the second time this am!

katierocket · 02/04/2004 19:20

oh well there you go tinker I thought sunday was the repeat. it's such a good programme even if you don't know the people/don't like the music except can't really handle the ones that are ALL obscure classical choices

TheCODERATOR · 02/04/2004 19:22

It was realy intersting and I missed the second hlaf as ds3 would not sit int he car , parked any longer!

katierocket · 02/04/2004 19:23

coderator I always drive a longer route round if it's on as know that DS will not let me listen once we get home.

TheCODERATOR · 02/04/2004 19:24

hmm. Why did he change his name?

katierocket · 02/04/2004 19:27

he started painting by just copying other artists work and then he did two of his own and he decided to change his name to his grandfathers i.e. Vettriano, I suppose as a "this is the real me" kind of thing.

personally I think he just liked the name better! and rightly so.

Tinker · 02/04/2004 19:28

Always forget to listen to it but when I do always wonder why I don't remember to (if that makes sense?) Can anyone remember the tracks? Only heard an (don't snigger) Eagles one but one I love - The last Resort. And then he picked one by Judy Coliins which made me start crying, really crying! I was driving. In fact, that's why I don't hear it, usually in the office on Friday.

Like a rolling stone
twist and shout

Tinker · 02/04/2004 19:31

Didn't know he'd changed his name and agree the V one just sounds good. Not a fan of his stuff but worry that's because I've succumbed to idea that it's Athena cr*p. Thought he sounded ok actually and can understand why he is well peed off at being snubbed by the Art community

I enjoyed the Bill Nighy one too. Great taste.

I've noticed an awful lot of people choose Rolling Stones and Bob Dylan. Yet radio stations don't play them all that much.

Tinker · 02/04/2004 19:32

Yeah, Like a Rolling Stone was his main fave. also mentioned a Leonard Cohen one - didn't say which one.

I know Janstar and yet they just sound fantastic still. 'Get off of my Cloud' - is that the actual title? - came on today. Still so bloody exciting

His choices are \link(www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/factual/desertislanddiscs.shtml\here} but I can't see a listen again button either.

ScummyMummy · 02/04/2004 23:51

Oops. I meant here .

Tinker · 03/04/2004 00:23

Excellent Scummy.

Browsing through other people's choices is interesting - Brian May had 2 featuring himself! Worse, one included Anita Dobson.
