Dentist has gone private - am I still entitled to free treatment?

I went to my NHS dentist whilst I was pg, I was told I needed a couple of fillings but that he wanted to do xrays so I would need to come back after I had ds. Anyway, a month after ds was born I got a letter through saying the dentist had now gone completely private and I was therefore no longer an NHS patient.

Will my treatment still be classed as outstanding? And if so should I still be entitled to free treatment bearing in mind ds is 7mths old now?

Your maternity certificate entitles you to dental care until your child turns a year old.

(no idea about the other stuff though, sorry)

so that includes all dental care, whether it is NHS or not?

soryy, only free NHS dental care.

If you phone your PCT they will direct you to a dentist who will provide treatment or pay up. I am not sure when a dentist goes private they have to provide free care. My last one didn't - I left him I never liked him anyway. my new one whom I found after dd2 was a year (private one - cost £50 for a check up ) also does NHS to exisiting patients and will do free work using the maternity certificate.

I don't think the dentist is obliged to give you free treatment with a child under 12 months if he's gone private though - I thought that was only NHS dentistry. Certainly the private dentists around here still charge when you're pregnant.

I know, private costs are appalling, that's why I have taken so long to go back, not because of the fillings more to do with the of the invoice
