Car seats, how heavy or old are they when...

DS is 5 months old but his feet are poking over the edge of his back facing car seat. Does anyone know when I change to a front facing one? I seem to have 9 months in my head but surely it goes on weight and length doesn't it? Any help appreciated.

I think it's weight more than length.

one year and at least 18lbs are the minimum on my britax

Nine months at the earliest. Feet not the problem - top of head poking over the top of the car seat is.

(DS2 is nearly 8mo and can't wait to be in a forward facing car seat - put him in his brother's when we were stopped at services the other day so we could eat our lunch and he LOVED it!

It's not simply about weight or length though - it's about being able to sit unaided and have good head control - and being over 9kg.

Thank you all for your quick responses. No panic then!
