Thats it really, due to the fact we have a new puppy and it is dd1's first weekend since she started school, we sold our tickets for Roundhay park tonight for the Robbie gig. We were going to have a night away just dh and I.... and now I am sulking... and banging pots and pans.... and stomping about..... ITS NOT FAIR!!!!!

I would have left it til after the concert to get a puppy

And wouldn't have thought of it being the first weekend since dd started school

How bad a mother am I? Come on... It's Robbie

Ive just seen it. DS1 who is big into music (chilli peppers greenday etc etc) would love it and it looks reasonably safe - mostly mums!. Should I take him next week. He is 7.

I would take my kids to gigs like this, didn't on this occasions. the split was about 80/20 female/ male.

At Robbie there is a high percentage of drinkers plus drunks collapsing, couples arguing and fighting and I even saw one female chucked out for giving her BF a BJ.

I wouldn't take kids if it was the first gig of this size I was going to. It also helps to be familier with the venue. You really need your wits about you especially when moving about and when the crowd moves in surges for example when the main act comes on.

Most venues will happily put families with young kids into the front pen/ circle. It is a bit less crowded in there as numbers are limited, even if you go further back in this area you are still close enough to see everything.

Ear plugs are a good idea especially if they are going to be a regular gig attender. These can be hard to fit on kids though so copy the celebs and buy a pair of ear defenders . They cut out the high pitched screaming and makes it all sound a lot better and not as overwhelming. I have seen kids getting very upset and wanting to leave loud concerts. If you notice the stewards/ security mostly wear ear plugs as the DB's can do damage.
