i usually put a (x) at the end of my txts to friends and today on here i have done it twice! Ok have another x.

x is alright! I've been known to put the odd x when I'm feeling affectionate.

thank god somebody has said it. without wishing to sound like a crashing snob (which i do realise makes me sound like a crashing snob), text speak is very difficult to read and to understand and one of the best things about mumsnet is the fact that people here try to express themselves in an amusing and inclusive manner.

well, apart from cod.

I don't think we can do much about codspeak - braver people than us have tried and perished in the attempt.

I sometimes entertain myself by attempting to text friends a la Cod. It's surprisingly hard to do without the aid of a few glasses of wine...

I think - have been thinking this a while, actually (I don't get out much) - that sites like this are very interesting precisely because people post on them with such very different ideas about writing and communication. There's a lot of really very sophisticated writing and word-play here (especially with, for instance, Christmas names).

(That's not the only reason I find MN interesting, btw. V flabby writing there .)
