Worrying E-mail advice needed from those in Milton Keynes or who are going there

mosschops30 · 06/09/2006 13:11

Had an e-mail from Ticketmaster this morning telling me that they hold no responsibility if I miss concert due to traffic problems. They say it will be a nightmare and that in excess of 65,000 trying to get into MK for concert.

Can anyone tell me how accurate this is, and how long do you think it will take from Cardiff. Should I leave really early gates open at 2.30pm but it will be a long day for dd if it doesnt start till 7pm, especially if its bloody raining

hi mosschops
I live in Luton..its about 20 mins drive from Milton Keynes but do know the traffic gets horrendous whenever theres a big concert on over there. My advice would be to leave as early as possible. If you get there really early theres plenty to do in MK.Plus the M1 motorway gets chokka blocked for miles as well.

Hope that helps and have a great time

oliveoil · 06/09/2006 13:17

phone MK themselves, I think the Rolling Stones did there recenlty, or other huge shows, they should be able to give you advice.

Alternatively, can you get to MK and do something else in the vicinity and then go to the concert?

There will be stuff to do inside. How old is dd?

mosschops30 · 06/09/2006 13:17

would 10.30am be too late (dd is having her hair done ...bless) i need to check multimap really dont I.

So its not an exageration then, it really will be bedlam

do you have your tickets in your hand? If you are collecting at the Box Office then leave today!!!!!!

mosschops30 · 06/09/2006 13:23

yes I have my tickets in hand

just checked multimap and it reckons a two and a half hour journey, what a nightmare, so if I leave at 11am still wont get there till 1.30pm on a good day. Maybe I will scrap the hair and leave a lot earlier.

dd is 10

Phone MK and ask for the stage times, ie doors, support group and main band times then you can work you day around it.

Scrap hair and get her a treat when you get there instead from the merchandise stall.

Take mac with hood in case of rain (not umbrella, everyone behind will want to stab you in the eye).

xx

hiya. personally i would leave earlier and go to the shopping centre. HUGE centre. right next to it is the escape dome, with a ski slpe and loads of arcades etc so could be fun for your dd etc. the m1 junction for mk is reguarly blocked and it is hell. if you have sat nav or anything may be worth going off a turning before or after and going on smaller roads. we vist milton keynes reguarly as half an hour away. also if you have never been here befoe it is gridlocked when the show finishes so make sure you have plenty of petrol!!! at least our dd can fall asleep in the car. let me know if you want toknow anything else. x

girrafey · 06/09/2006 14:37

Your dd. so sorry must preview. not being creepy or anything!!!

some useful info here

mosschops30 · 06/09/2006 19:01

we are staying in a B&B so dont need to travel home, its in Mursely so dont know if my best bet is to park there and get a taxi in and back again in the night, but i guess chances of a taxi will be slim! Where can we be dropped on the website it says the train station, how far to walk from the bowl to there?

Sorry for asking sooo many questions

OP posts:
mosschops30 · 06/09/2006 19:03

thanks for that info iota, great stuff on there. I dont think I will be touching the M1 though coming from cardiff, looks to be M4 and then all back roads

OP posts:
iota · 06/09/2006 19:04

I think it takes about 40 minutes to walk from the station - there is lots of info on mkweb

iota · 06/09/2006 19:05

bowwl faq here

iota · 06/09/2006 19:06

Which railway station is best to come into?
Milton Keynes Central is best. It is an easy walk of about 30-40 minutes from there. There will be a signposted route through the parks. This route is shown on our new MKWeb Visitor Map (2MB

iota · 06/09/2006 19:08

from Cardiff I would do M4, A34, A421 into MK

iota · 06/09/2006 19:10

Just looked at Mursely - oh dear - I think you will be hard pressed to geta taxi home and it's too far to walk. It really is chaos after a concert at the Bowl. sorry

Kathlean · 06/09/2006 19:24

We are staying in Northampton and getting the train to Milton Keynes. We just have to get there avoiding traffic somehow (-:

Does anyone know if they will lay on later trains? As I am a bit worried about making the last train after the concert and 40 minute walk.

mosschops30 · 06/09/2006 19:30

Ooh dear, anyone want to pick me up and drive me back to Mursley for a txi fare . God it says you can walk to the bowl from the train station, IMO 40 minutes is not a walk!

OP posts:
Kathlean · 06/09/2006 19:36

ah hah justrechecked the train times and answered my own question (-:

Georgiesmum · 12/09/2006 22:13

We are getting there for 1.30pm which we did for Take That aswell. The show doesnt start until 5.45pm so i would worry and robbie isnt on til 8pm. but im getting there only as I got in the gold circle last time!
think we will just car park it and wait

WideWebWitch · 12/09/2006 22:17

Oh god, I work in Milton Keynes and am dreading this, some people are working in London office for the day to avoid it, apparently it's going to take me for ever and ever to get home becayuse if the traffic. From Cardiff you DEFINITELY need to leave MORE than 2.5 hours to get to MK. It used to take me 2.5 hours from Bristol to central Milton Keynes very early on a Monday morning, i.e. not that much traffic.

Skribble · 12/09/2006 22:26

If DD is young don't worry about going early to get in the front area. Just smile sweetly at the security/ stewards. The production team want the little kids in the front area as it is less of a squash and obviously closer.

But do plan to arrive early so you can eat before you go in, you might want to give the support bands a miss and get something decent for dinner, plus less time standing with high DB's.
